Never Forget.
« on: September 11, 2009, 09:10:52 AM »
There were 2,595 people in the World Trade Center and near it, including:

343 NYFD firefighters and paramedics
23 NYPD police officers
37 Port Authority police officers
1,402 people in Tower 1
614 people in Tower 2
658 people at one company, Cantor Fitzgerald
1,762 New York residents
674 New Jersey residents
1 NYFD firefighter killed by a man jumping off the top floors of the Twin Towers

1,609 people lost a spouse or partner on 9/11. More than 3,051 children lost parents.

While it was mostly Americans who were killed in this horrific attack, there were also 327 foreign nationals.

This was an absolute horrific event in our history. I am unsure how this post will be taken? Though I do believe regardless of the aftermath. Which has resulted in even more deaths? None should be forgotten.

9.11.01

A day I personally will not soon forget. Keeping it in the back of my mind, as a constant reminder, why every day that I am alive? I should be grateful for it, and continue on the best I possibly can for those who were denied it.

((if anyone finds this offensive. My apologies.))

*lowers my head and says a silent prayer for all those who lost their lives in the attack & all their loved ones*

My flag at the house is flown at half staff today.  One on our fire departments has had a firefighter outside playing the bagpipes all day.

I think this was a tragic day for our country that no one will forget.

i was wondering if anyone else was going to post (about this). watching the replay of it all today, it still makes you feel so raw inside and it's hard to believe it's been eight years already. it was one of those times in life you will always remember where you were when you found out and while i have the luxury of continuing on with my life not too altered, i remember how many lost theirs and those whose lives will never be the same.

thoughts and prayers,

It's been 8 years since I lost a very good friend... There isn't a day I don't stop and think of him, of his family, and his friends he left behind... I am still not able to watch the replay of that day, the wound is still trying to heal and each time I see those planes going into the two buildings, I burst into tears... Just thinking about it hurts, ripping the scab off and the blood that flows is immense... ~takes a breath and tries not to cry anymore and fails~ Though one good thing happened that morning as well, a neighbor in the trailer park we were living in at the time gave birth to a healthy daughter... ~smiles through the tears~ The circle of life...

I am one who will never forget, ever... ~slips out to help set up the candle vigil that is going to happen tonight in memory of those we lost~

5 months before i happened. my brother got a job offer for the 72nd floor of the 1st tower..he turned it down all because of a 'bad feeling' about it.

No words can correctly describe the heartache I feel every 9/11 since 2001. Everyone involved in one way or another? My heart goes out to them.

thank You for Your post, Mistress, this day is always a difficult one for me, too.   my son is now a firefighter, (after his stint in the Marines...he enlisted after 9/11), and his station is honoring those who perished on that horrible day.

It was a Tuesday morning and my partner and I were in California working a site for a cable company as auditors.  When we woke up we went over some notes before starting our day of being on the road and inspecting work sites and cable lines.  We turned on the tv to watch the weather when we saw the news of a plane hitting one of the towers.  We were riveted and watched a live feed of the second plane, crossing the camera's live feed line of sight and slam into the second tower.  Even the news reporters couldnt believe the feed and the plane flying in.

My partner couldnt believe what he saw and neither could I.  We were ex-military and defending our country from enemies foreign and domestic couldnt have hit more home than that moment, but later that day it would hit harder than we would come to realize.

See, my partners brother was part of an acting company, flying out of Boston to Los Angeles.  He missed his flight with his acting company and had to take another flight.  Flight 175.

The live feed coverage of Tower 1 showed this image at 6:03 am our time out in California.

My partner didnt know it, but he had just witnessed the murder of his Brother on live t.v.  He found out later that day around 1308, and we couldnt leave out of California so that he could be with his family during this time.

Surely it is strange, see, because I flew out of Boston on that Monday, September 10 to Los Angeles from the same airport.  We were warned that if we missed our flight, we would fly out the next day because of company expenses.  My partner held the flight up because I was late and was running through the airport.  Almost missed it.

September 11, 2001 is a date the world will remember especially Americans as it was the day innocent people lost their lives as we were attacked upon our own soil.  Of course we will never forget what happen, especially me.

Everyone knows I am retired Military... a weapons specialist at that.   and I had been out of the military at that point for 11 years.  I had gotten up that morning and put the kids on the bus for school. I was waiting to call the florist because we had started a tradition.  9/11/97 was the date of my daughters first open heart surgery.  so I had gotten into a routine of sending a rose for every year past surgery with a pillow buddy stuffed toy to her at school on that day.  I was sitting on the couch watching good morning america.  Charlie Gibson was speaking and then immediantly he started saying something about an explosion at the world trade center.  about a plane had hit the world trade center.  I remember sitting there thinking to myself..... planes just don't hit buildings like that... they just don't hit buildings like that.  it was shortly after that.... that I watched in horror as that second plane went in.  then to hear that another had flown into the side of the pentagon.   and then later that passengers fought back and unfortunately drove that plane into a farmers field in penn.  I remember shaking so bad... the way I had when the USS Stark had been hit years ago and I had to go help peel and pull metal away from those that were sacrificed.  I remember thinking omg this can't be happening... this can't be real... but it was.  A friend of mine was heading for the school to get her kids and I asked her to bring mine home.  I just needed to hold them.... They got home and I had them stay inside.. living on the back door of a space center isnt' always the best place to be.  within an hour a US Marshall  was on my doorstep with recall papers.  I was placed in a recall status... to be taken to where ever they needed me to be.  I can remember calling Ragnar and telling Him  Boss... they put me in recall... He said call me and let me know you are ok.  I can remember having to pull my uniforms out of the back of the closet and having to try them on so my mother could adjust them and have them fit correctly.  and having to look in the face of a 10 and 12 yr old and explain to them... that Mom is gonna have to go back and defend this country and make things that kill people again.  and That I do this because I love them so much.

I lost friends that day... there were people I knew that were in both towers.  I lost 23 friends in DC at the pentagon.

an infamous japanese man. Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto  proved to the world in 1941 that the united states is one thing... its a big sleepy lazy giant that when you wake it up... has a force to be dealt with.   September 11, 2001 that big giant was awakend from a nap with a slap in the face.  but we still haven't learned the lesson.  Where the next attack will come from who knows... could be another act of terror,  could be a chemical or biological attack.  The Question is how many more men and women who put on the uniform and stand the wall for this country will die before our government realizes the simple way to stop the problem.

Your Freedom has never been "FREE".   Its been paid by the blood sweat and tears of those of that choose to stand the watch... guard the wall and the door. and Even tolerate all the idiots who want to burn the flag, bad mouth everything use cuss words every other breath and just misuse the resources that are given to us on a daily basis because its DISPOSABLE.  As of OOO1 am  9/12/09.  I'm officially off recall now due to my age and the fact that I have a knee that will be replaced in another 3 years...But the Legacy goes on... My son will now wear the uniform of the US Navy.  He will take my place on the wall and stand the watch.  I pray he never truly has to know what War an Death will look like.

If you were alive on that day.  Remember it... Share that with your children... Teach them to be wise with their resources.  Teach that even here in the USA  that HONOR,  has a face.. has a a name.
