Hurricane Sandy
« on: October 25, 2012, 05:29:38 AM »
I'm starting to hate New England weather.
I'm really not liking it at Halloween time.
Last year trick or treating was postponed due to the blizzard.
Worse, we lost power for twenty hours.
Not that long? Figure in a teen and a toddler.
Kiah got more gray hair that weekend, for sure.
Fast-forward to this year and it's looking like a repeat.
Hopefully the hurricane/nor'easter doesn't live up to the hype.
This is one time I'd like the meteorologists to be wrong...

*Strips you down and superglues your ass to your home's main support... then duct tapes you around and around the support... plunks a crash helmet on your head and buckles it up... hooks up a water jug and a long straw for you... Hangs survival bars all around your head.*

That should last you a couple days.  Just in case.

Thank you for your kindness. We have a wood stove to keep warm so we will be fine. Everything else is an inconvenience. I can live without technology but do hate to go without a hot shower for days. (ya, ya, so does the rest of the household) I have taken an ice cold one before and until you do, you don't know the real meaning of "no hot water left". Prayers to those who may suffer or are simply scared. I remember being a single parent living penny to penny and these times are extra hard on them.

Yeah, it's starting to look like we are in the path of the storm. It might hit Cape May, NJ first, then turn to the east and hit us full on. We are now heading out to get some extra supplies, but mostly have everything covered from Irene last year, just have to get some extra supplies for when the power goes out and other things like replenishing the first aid kit. Thank goodness for a propane stove, as that might be the one thing to save our butts and we are waiting for Governor Markell to declare a State of Emergency for Delaware, everyone else around us has already, but I have this feeling that Markell is too busy pushing his re-election campaign to declare anything.

To everyone else that is in the path of this monster, do NOT buy milk, eggs and bread, as those are the three things that will go bad the quickest, especially with the milk and eggs when the power goes out. But still, the bread shelves are almost empty and the milk and eggs section were bare by 6p last night here in town. -RME- I will keep all up to date, while we still have power and we will find a way to get word to my family here when we lose the power. -runs out to get supplies while there are some left-

Have never understood the eggs and milk rush, bread okay PB&J sandwiches. Went through Hugo years ago and it was enough for this girl and nothing compared to what appears to be coming ya'lls way. Stay safe everyone.

Taryn, I hope you weathered the storm okay.
We were blessed. We had lots of rain and scary wind but all is well.
The highest wind gust was to 64 mph.
My son even has school today (hooray!).
Prayers to all those effected.

We made it through both Superstorm Sandy and Winter Storm Athena fine. Sandy we got a bit of wind, a couple downed trees and the top half of our town lost power due to a tree taking out power lines, but we got lucky and kept our power. This last storm, Athena, we got little to no wind, rain mixed with ice and a couple of snowflakes, but nothing stayed on the ground or grass for long, but it did get damn cold. No power outages here, thankfully.

There was damage along the Delaware coast, from Slaughter Beach down to Ocean City, MD they got severely battered when Sandy took that sudden turn to the left and slammed inland. The newly refurbished Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk, which was just finished in August was wiped out, as were a lot of other places. The tidal surge exceeded their predictions, mainly due to the full moon and the strength of the storm. All the news outlets have been talking about New Jersey, New York and Connecticut and not saying anything about the destruction of the towns and cities in Delaware and Maryland. All I ask is that thoughts and prayers be sent for those affected out here, as well as those who had to deal with the storm that just blew through here yesterday and are still dealing with Athena currently are safe and sound and will stay warm.

When I have more time, I will explain why I have been not around a lot lately, but do know that I love my family and miss you all very much. -hugggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggles-
