And history is made!
« on: August 16, 2008, 08:58:19 PM »
Yup, history has been made. Michael Phelps has won 8, count em, EIGHT gold medals in one Olympics... and broke 7 records doing it. I am truly amazed and in awe of this young man's athletic ability. He has now won more gold medals in one Olympics than any other person in history, beating Mark Spitz's record of 7 from back in the 70's.

oh.. and the 100m dash in running has a new world record of 9.69 by Bolt from Jamaica.

Got to see the Phelps race..the one last night..from a distance.  Was eating at work during my small break, and didn't feel like getting up to look closer.  I could tell from the way everyone clapped and cheered that he had won, but I didn't know until I asked if he had broken a record.  The Man is on fire.  That's dedication right thar.

Krul, it's easy to be on top of it when you've watched every single race he was in. *laughs* I told y'all. I'm addicted to Olympics! I am glued to my tv! Kymlet is NOT happy with me about it, and I've had to let up some and let her watch some of her shows as well. I just hit record and record what I've missed. *lol*

Amber, you're right, he is truly dedicated, and is actually mad at himself for not going as fast as he wanted in one of his races. His goggles had a malfunction and filled with water when he dove in at the beginning of the race. He won, by a decent margin, and broke the record, but he knew he could swim faster... but couldn't see... so he says he has something to work on now. *chuckles*
