: ~Setting the mug of black wine on the counter .. I began humming a lil tune. I pulled out a mixing bowl, the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar. I measured out the dry ingredients into the bowl. Then stepping out and going to the cold storage area, getting some eggs and butter. Smiles more seeing a basket of peaches, I grabbed them too and headed back into the wagon~

: ~I mixed the eggs and butter into the dry ingredients .. then hurried back out for milk. Bringing it back inside, I added the milk and made a nice thick batter.~

: ~Taking one of the large baking pans, I coated it with a layer of the butter. Then taking the yellow sugar .. sprinkling it over the butter. Wiping My hands off, I took the basket of peaches, washing each one that I would use. Taking the knife, I began slicing the fruit, pulling the pit out and discarding it. I took the slices and arranged them in the pan ontop of the sugar. Taking the yellow sugar and sprinkling more over the peaches...this would make a good glaze as it baked.~

: ~Adding little dollops of the butter randomly over the peaches, and then taking the batter, pouring it into the pan over the peaches. Gently shaking the pan back and forth just enough to even out the batter.~

: ~Carefully carrying the pan out to the cookfires, and to the brick oven. I sid the pan inside .. taking note of where the sun was beginning to set so I could judge the time.~

: (and through the miracle of time...) ~I took the thick rep cloth potholders and pulled the cake from the oven. The aroma wafting through the air. Carrying it back into the commissary wagon~

: ~Setting the pan on the butcher block counter, I got one of the large serving platters from the shelf and wiping it clean. Placing it over top of the pan, and once again, using the potholders, flipped the pan over, with the platter now on the bottom. Letting it sit like that to cool...I left it, taking the mug of black wine and heading out of the wagon~
