KFC Grilled Chicken.
« on: July 19, 2009, 02:31:33 PM »
I am disappointed, I really like their new grilled chicken.  But... with the possibility of getting breast cancer cause of it?  Think I'll go back to eating my honey BBQ wings when I get my teeth.

Uh.  Sorry woobies!  I didn't mean to ruins your day.  Blame Oprah, because apparently, just because she was giving away coupons on her website, they decided to investigate KFC grilled chicken.

When reading these reports you need to consider the agenda of the reporting organization. PCRM agenda is they would prefer everyone be on a vegan diet. Chicken is not the problem. In fact, PhIP (or HCA) is formed from cooking any meat at high temperatures for long periods. It is most prevalent in meats which are habitually overcooked, such as chicken, but also occurs in overcooked beef.

There is little direct evidence of PhiP causing cancer in humans. Most studies cited are using animal subjects. There have been studies correlating self reported overcooked beef (hence PhiP intake) with prostate cancer. But nutritionists are taking a "do not panic" approach. The study also showed that a diet including adequate fruit and vegetable intake significantly reduces the risk. As usual, cook your food correctly (cook steak to medium rare, the way it is supposed to be *s*), limit your intake, and eat a balanced diet including fruits and vegetables.

You can find an accessible discussion of the correlative study as well as some diet recommendations here.

~smiles and nods~ Yeah, I was wondering about such when I read the article... And since chicken is one of those meats that has to be thoroughly cooked through, it's going to happen no matter where you go...

Though I have never figured this out, why do they do studies on animals, when they barely have the same body system/structure as humans, at least food wise, I can understand why they do it for medications, at least in the first few stages before they go out and do the clinical trials on us.. but what gets me, is that they want you to eat nothing that has to be killed, or anything that comes from an animal, yet, they will do studies on animals so they can tell us why their way is so much better.. (*disclaimer* I have no problem with vegans and vegetarians in the slightest)

Also another note, it seems that more so lately, they have been coming out with so many things about food being bad for you, that it's getting obscene... The simple fact of the matter is, if you eat a balanced diet, and get in some exercise you will be just fine, and probably live as long as your body will allow you to... Heck, the media tells us about someone who just died who was 108 years old, who have eaten as they wanted for all their lives, and then in the next breath, they are telling us about some medical research saying that such and such is bad for you... ~shakes head~ Tends to make you wonder about such research, and who paid for it to be done...

Just a little food for thought is all.. ~slips out to head back to bed and get some more sleep~

I also caught the part about cooking meats at high temperatures.  And also thought.. It's chicken.. you have to cook it at high temperatures, otherwise you run the risk of salmonella.  Granted.. I don't cook my beef at high temperatures, preferring steak to be medium as well as burgers, but considering chicken and turkey are poultry, wouldn't that be the same?  Why aren't they blasting our Thanksgiving turkeys?  Like I said, it's most likely because Oprah was giving away free coupons, and obviously she's no vegan. -rofl-

They are not only targeting Chicken.

This is what an anti-meat group is doing in my area:
http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5g2VXQsB1U5blZHNw5KupjWVX-39QD99JORG00

Yes.... They are targeting hotdogs....

I can just see it now... Child services coming after you for feeding your children cancer causing hotdogs when you take them to the ballpark for a day of family entertainment.

Seriously... anything in abundance is bad for you...
I think I would die of many other things before Cancer if all I ate was hot dogs... That is just my opinion though.

First they institute "peanut" free zones in the baseball park as a compromise for those trying to keep them from selling peanuts at the games and now... they want cancer warnings on hotdogs?

Will it become "Buy me some carrots and celery sticks" instead of "Buy me some peanuts and cracker jacks"?

Oprah has become rather careful in things she promotes now, after getting burned one time too many.. ~chuckles~ but if you look at things from the point of view of doctors and such, grilled chicken is much better for you than fried... but to be honest, I like my fried chicken a lot more, the crunchy skin, and the moist meat underneath..

Though my favorite meat is a nice, bloody prime rib... ~sighs~ There used to be a restaurant in Las Vegas that would actually cook our prime rib rare, which is an oddity, as most places have to cook it to either medium or medium well, so they don't end up causing you getting sick from undercooked meat... Again, I used to sneak hamburger meat before was it made into patties, add a bit of salt or season salt for seasoning, and eat the raw ground beef... my bro-in-law was blamed for me doing such... and the lecture that followed was not fun... but I don't do that anymore, as I don't trust the meat that comes out anymore, until it's cooked that is..

~slips out to take a nap, slips in to add as ameeshia posted while I was typing my own out~

They will go after everything and anything, but the thing they have to realize, we are all addicted to eating, if we stop, we die... and just breathing the air outside can cause cancer... It's starting to feel like everything we do nowadays will cause cancer, it's getting beyond stupid...

~and now I head out to get that sleep, as it is one thing that doesn't like me lately~
