first detention
« on: October 19, 2009, 11:00:25 AM »
~sits watching the clock, waiting for her son to get home (modifies after his arrival)

well, my darling seventh grader of a son got his first detention today and for all things...table topping?...i actually had to ask what it was...

i guess a kid could wack their head pretty good if they landed the wrong way but they could if they tripped over their own feet too. if this is the biggest problem in the (public) school, i think their community is quite safe

course, my first detention was in the seventh grade too..got caught staying inside at recess without permission, at a catholic school...now that was a good girl gone bad situation if i ever heard of one...lol...we had to sit with heads straight, silent, and hands folded, getting cuffed if we moved...not sleep like they do in school these days

then there is my daughter who got her first suspension back in seventh grade...for calling a girl a slut and violating sexual harrassment policies

real bullying is a terrible problem for a lot of kids...but some of these rules?...all i can do is shake my head

Table topping is normally what they call when the kids get roudy and either climb on, stand on, or knock over tables or benches... I dont know if thats exactly what its reffering to.... but ya know... its kinda dumb, so now no one is allowed to go all "oh captian my captian" at school anymore

greetings Master and (welcome back) Mistress

in this case, it is when there are at least three kids together. two facing each other and another crouched like a table behind the back of one, making a quick push send the kid toppling over the crouched/tabled one.

it was hard not to laugh when telling him not to do it anymore

Hrmm..we called that having fun with playground activities.

Guess we were a bit rougher than todays kids.  No wonder so many are lil momma's boys when they join the military and pick stupid MOS' like....accounting.

You know, when I was a kid... I played G.I Joe and used those red bricks as hand grenades. Got hit in the head and guess what... I got rushed to the hospital and got stitches. No DCF called, I cried a little, hated stitches but went on My way afterwards. This was when I was 5 or 6ish, and just a few months before, was leaning back in My chair in class and it slipped out and I hit the back of My head. I use to come home with so many scratches, cuts, bruises and it was just apart of grwing up. Again, no DCF, no being taken away from parents... In a society where Violence is even on video games, kids these days are way too soft!

When I was younger... the one thing you didn't do was piss MawMaw off before church on sunday morning.. because if you did.. you was having to sit right next to her and that woman could pince.  if you really messed up any other time you got sent to go get a switch off a brides wreath bush.... I remember a cop coming down the road and stopping as maw maw turn Bubba and Rowdy's backside off for climbing the roof of the garage to get the mulberrys off the tree in sunday clothes.....  cop stopped. asked if things was ok.. saw the stains.. shook his head... and looked at my cousins and said next time  if i come through and you up there..... I'm just gonna help...  and kept going.   Growing up... if we got hurt... you got methalade or mecuricom and a bandaid....  if it needed stiches you got them and was back out riding ya bike in about two hours.... wth has this world come to.
