Astringent Herbs
« Reply #3 on: March 27, 2017, 08:35:34 PM »
An astringent acts to contract and tighten, or constrict body tissues, usually locally after topical medicinal application, similar to styptic. This constricting action can help eliminate secretions and hemorrhaging. Astringent foods cause the mouth to feel dry and constricted.

Astringents can be applied externally on cuts, rashes, allergies, fungal infections, scars or insect bites and can be helpful in healing and diminishing scars and stretch marks. Externally applied astringents, dry, harden, and protect the skin. Astringent solutions are used in the relief of such minor skin irritations as those resulting from superficial cuts, allergies, insect bites, fungal infections and acne caused by oily skin.
