What does a Tuchuk Wagon look like...
« on: March 08, 2006, 08:52:45 AM »
There's a thread on AR that I found rather interesting.. it started as a question about whether or not the wagons had flaps or doors... and well someone posted about what they thought the wagons would look like...

Now mind you, the wagons stand 6 feet off the ground, not as low as the following wagon is, but everything else what I believe is very very close... click on the links for the wheel and the inside of the wagon, there you will understand how big the inside is, and how the wagon wheels were made... ~smiles~

This is the link to the discussion on the AR boards...

that is by far the best pic of what a wagon belonging to the wagon people of Gor would be.

i do feel that there would have to be just a few differences... but overall there you have it.

do bear in mind that in the pic, the wagon is a miniature. so the scale does make a difference. increase it's overall size to allow the wheels to grow, the platform to sit 6 feet high, and add a few of the frills we tend to in Tuchuk and you are in business.

given the mondo honkin size of a Ubar's wagon, my wheels are naught spoked, but rather solid and a bit wider as well as more numerous. i use wooden railings in place of their chain or rope, as even though wood is limited on the plains, i feel it would still be much easier to obtain than chain as the nomads have no actual manufacturing by the books and chain would have to be obtained at great cost. the wood... we could use and reuse, and could obtain even during our wintering migration as we tend to winter up closer to the equatorial line in the cartius region.

we have wagon boxes by the book. a framework and paneled wall that forms the foundation atop the platform for the shelter. i think this is for structural integrity as well as for defense. remember... arrows can pass through the hides we use whereas wood would tend to stop the arrows in most cases... at least the arrows we normally encounter being loosed at us on the plains. it is over this that the bosk hides are affixed to give us our shelter.

my steps are centered on the rear of my platform and may be lifted or detached and stored under the platform for travel. i also refer to the area outside my wagon entry to my steps as the "porch". i also have an "awning" of hide extending from my box structure to the end of my platform.

but enlarge that miniature to full scale... and you petty much have the norm for a wagon of the Nomadic Wagon People. *S*

I just never pictured the living space to be octogonal.... I always pictured the old pioneer type wagon shape for some reason.... *grin* But ok... so... wooden sides (which would then make a wooden door very feasable btw) and a tent shape for the roof and not the rounded shape that I was always picturing. I can work wiht that!

oh yes, I found another picture of a larger wagon, well the picture is larger at least, and it shows a bit more details than the one I posted before...
