The likelihood of being thrown to the sleen, is not an exclusionary factor, only a suggestive instance that it is easier perhaps for a slave to be tossed to the sleen, a hunter and tenacious tracker, rather than other slaves learning a lesson.

For the frees on the other hand, through the retribution factor of impalement used as a deterrence for crimes to be committed by frees, is worthy to be learned.  Frees being more valued and looked at in a higher degree of worthiness than a mere slave, who is a simple beast of burden, at the beck and call of the frees in service. Thus the underlying philosophy of justice on Gor, is used at the empowering discretion of those in charge.  Hence, honor, plays no role in impalement, just convenience.

Though Gor is harsh, it is not particularly moreso than ancient (and not so ancient) civilizations of earth, those cultures with which are the building ground of Gorean cultures.  For example, the rencers are akin to certain muslim groups of the swamplands.

(as for the other sinn, darlin', that wasn't the quote I wanted.. there is another that clearly defines the contradictions.. I'll find it when I have time from important matters.. but yes, there are various cultures within Gor that do not always practice the same things; the earrings being a great example! thanks for reminding me of that little item!)

Also known as the Swamp Spiders, were actually a race of beings that used a translation device strapped to their bellies to communicate.

In many areas, armor simply consisted of the common round Gorean shield and the Gorean helmet.
