Search for a Home.
« on: April 03, 2007, 01:15:44 PM »
Beau and I have finally begun our search for a home for the two of us.  Here's the problem.  We leave the place we're living at, and we're down to 1 computer and no car to use.  Sucks, I know, but we've been married for three years and thus far, have lived NONE of that on our own.  We've lived on our own before, yes, but not for very long.  We want to start having a family, need to be out on our own to do that. -sighs-  So we have two places lined up to look at.  One is a one bedroom apartment with all the utilities included, and we're looking at that. -s-  The other prospect is a 2 bedroom house, which doesn't include utilities and is more expensive than the apartment (which includes utilities).  We wouldn't be able to afford the house on our own, (which means we invite someone to be our roommate, which would probably be our friend Alex).  Which sort of cancels out the whole "living on our own" thing.  So everyone pray that we get the one bedroom apartment, and can afford to get another computer so Beau and I don't fight over who gets to be online.  And I'll keep this updated as I find out more, I could be moving within the next week (since the apartment is available right now to move in to).  But I don't know how long getting phoen and dsl will take..so...yeah.

*keeping my fingers crossed for you, though I would look for a car before a second computer*
(just a different perspective from someone who moved out of her parents house at 15 and has survived so far)

I would look for a vehicle before an apartment.

No way to get to work = no paycheck = no rent payment = no apartment. (Or computer or phone or that stuff they call food, etc)

i speak from experience as someone who has had to move alot because bills were too high for the income... transportation is paramount, indeed maybe not a new car but one that is reliable enough that you wont be calling in all the time because it gimped up and left you on the side of the road. *snugs and well wishes to both Master and Mistress!

No deposits for the one bedroom apartment for utilities and such..it's included in the price. Sure, transportation is important, but when you live in a town where it takes five minutes to drive from one side of it..to the other...and everything is reasonably within walking distance, a bicycle will do just fine. -shrugs- One bedroom apartments with ALL utilities included (except for cable and phone) don't come along all that often around here. -shrugs- I don't know.  Maybe I'll just live with other people for the rest of my life, and not have to worry about any of this, because it will take us another year or so to save up the money to move the rate we are going, what with having to pay rent and bills where we are.

Sorry. I reacted badly.  It's not easy living with another couple and their child, especially when that other couple wants to buy a house, and has pretty much given you a short time to move out.  I mean, they aren't kicking us out, but you can tell...they want us out.

Good luck!  Having just gone through a whirlwind move, myself, I can tell you that it is exciting, exhausting, and aided by more than a little luck.  Stress aside, there is no satisfaction quite like being DONE at last and sitting down just to look at your spiffy new home, when there is finally a place for everything and everything in its place.  And when you reach that point, I suggest doing what it didn't occur to me to do, because it was just too damned late and I was too damned tired: GET DRUNK!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations on the taking the next big step in your lives!

Have an appointment on Friday to look at the house.  An appointment on Saturday to look at the apartment.  Right now, we're keeping our options open.  If it looks as though the guy doesn't want us to have the apartment, then we can always go with the house, and offer the friend to come live with us, and then we could afford the house (which is closer to both of our works than the apartment (still within walking distance)).  We shall see after this weekend.

OKay...Beau and I went to our first appointment in our search for a place to live.

The House:  Oh HELL NO.  Newly remodeled my ass.  Apparently, newly remodeled around here means that they threw in some new carpet, put on a fresh coat of paint, and some new tile in the kitchen.  The basement/foundation had two inch deep cracks, the bathroom was teeny tiny, the bedrooms weren't much bigger, and there was absolutely NO counter space in the kitchen.  Not to mention that this place was 525$ a month, with no clue as to how the utility bills usually ran.  So we definitely are not going with that option.  We do however still have the appointment to see the apartment tomorrow (the 490 with all utilties included apartment!!!!!!)  Hopefully that goes well.  We don't want a teeny tiny place, but then, we don't want a humungous place either.  We just want a nice homey place to live.  That's all we really ask.  Really.

the house sounds like the house we just left in Minnesota... the bathroom was teeny tiny. though the bedrooms were nicely sized... the only drawback was that whoever dismantled the basement which was turned into a bedroom, but done without the permits, forgot to remove or close off the vents, so we were heating not only the house, but the basement... 400-600 a month electric bills is not a fun thing...

Good luck with the apartment, even if it is small, just think about being able to hopefully save money for a house down the road... ~grins~
