AAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!
« on: June 20, 2007, 03:46:45 PM »
Welcome to my day of hell.

Started off great. Kymlet slept till 8:30ish. We got up, we got dressed, had a morning bottle, watched some 1st Take, and then, STUPID ME, I decide to go to Sams Club to get a few things that I need, like formula and dog biscuits... and sprite to mix vodka in.

We go to Sam's Club. Kymlet is a little tired, and hungry, but we have a bottle and banana puffs and we're all good. Get all my groceries, including some cheese danish's and Ghiradelli dark chocolates (yaay!!!), get back out to the SUV, put everything into the back, put Kymlet into her carseat... accidently pinch some of her skin in the buckle.. oops!!  :'( Get into the driver seat, turn the ignition, put it in reverse to back out of my parking space... and NOTHING happens. Nadda! no movement. So, I put it back in park, put it in reverse again, and... nothing. Turn SUV off, turn it on, put it in reverse, still nothing. dangit!!!! Dig thru bag for AAA card and cell phone. Call AAA and tell them what's going on with Kymlet in the back seat crying because she's tired and hot, and now her leg hurts too. AAA promises to send someone asap, since I have a baby. Turn off SUV, curse silently so that Kymlet won't hear anything and repeat it, get out, get Kymlet out of carseat, play with Kymlet in backseat for 20 min until tow truck shows up. Towtruck guy thinks my transmission is shot. UT OH!!!  :o Put Car seat in towtruck, let guy hook SUV onto Towtruck flatbed, get carted off to repair shop. Repair shop thinks it's my transmission too. DANGIT!!!!!

So now, I'm crying, and frantically trying to figure out where I'm going to get 3400 bucks from. Figured that part out, going to have to get our citifinancial loan expanded, which they keep telling me they can do. The lady at the counter was so awesome, she took Kymlet from me and played with her so I had a chance to calm down, and cool off in air conditioning. And to give my arms a break. oy!!

Because they're going to fix my vehicle, they send me home with towtruck guy in a company halfton. Kymlet sleeps all the way home. This towtruck guy was so great. He loaded up all my groceries into the back of the truck, and then unloaded them all when we got home.

So, I'm waiting all afternoon to hear that yes, transmission is definitely dead. I've called the loan peoples and they can cover it nooo problem. I just have to show up in Columbus Indiana (hour and a half away) to sign the paperwork. Hmmm.. that could be a problem. Call up a friend and ask if she can drive me.. shouldn't be a problem.

At 6:30 I call the repair place back and say, what's going on with my SUV please? To hear, we're not sure. (Say what now?!?!) Apparently, when they went to go look at it, reverse would't work, but ALL THE FORWARD GEARS WOULD! Weird. So they took it for a test run, came back and voila! reverse works now too! Don't know why. They're doing a computer diagnostic to find out why because I DEFINITELY don't want this to happen again! Especially when we're on the way to Canada next month!

So yeah... I've been dealing with a Kymlet who's had a whole 30 min of sleep all day (she's finally asleep now), fear and trepidation of the whole scary transmission thing, total stress out, and I STILL don't know what's going on. GAH!!  And on top of all that, the only thing i've had to eat all day, is a cheese danish. Been drinking a lot of water tho cuz I got overheated. They're going to call me tomorrow, when they know what's going on. I'm praying for quick, cheap fix. *nods lots*

Wouldn't have made any difference... so THERE!!

I just called the repair shop and apparently the problem is a buggy valve body... which is in the transmission. When it goes funky, you lose reverse, but nothing else. They were in the middle of looking up how much a new valve body costs, but they assured me that it costs waaay less than a new tranny. My next thought was, yeah.. but if you have to take the whole tranny apart to get at it... will cost just as much in labour. That fear has been put to rest after doing a google and ask.com search. All ya gotta do is remove the pan underneath and its' right there! yaay!!

So I'm just waiting now for them to call me back with numbers and I'll know if I'm still going to need the loan extension, or if I can afford it without that.

Though not as bad as a full teardown of the tranny sis... it can still get a bit pricey in the labor dept.

They will have to drop the pan and depending on where exactly it is, they will have to drain and get it out and replace it... replace the pan and refill. add in gasket(s) and some elephant shit as these service guys seem to have a love affair with that stuff. Depending on design, there may even be a plate under there that will have to be removed to gain clear access to the tranny. Hopefully by design they don't have the tranny and oil pan butted so close the oil pan would need to be removed to clear that lip from the tranny to allow it to be cracked open. if so... this is more vehicle fluids and gaskets etc.

Not a difficult task... but certainly a time eater.Naturally this requires lift time. If my sis still has a service agreement or warranty... then all should be well.

No warranty.. we bought it used.. it's a 99... but they've quoted me a total, parts and labour, of 565... which isn't bad. I just sat down with Quicken and crunched the numbers, and I can actually afford this. So, while not great, a heck of a lot better than 3400.  They're going to work on it this afternoon and call me when its' done.

*grins at Kitya as she plays with Kymmy*

Just don't forget the important part of thanking God that it happened in a parking space and not out in traffic or somewhere worse..

*shakes the baby toys and teases Kymmy's nose with them*

OhI am very thankful... we really were in the best place for it to happen.

I have my suvee back now, I picked it up yesterday after some frantic phone calling to get someone to take us to the shop. *chuckles* The first person who was going to, had her dad call and say that he was coming home early and was taking the family to the rodeo that was in town. So I called another friend, who was out of town. Her dad was going to take me, and showed up to take me, but he's on some new meds which have left his stomach cramping. He got here, and within 5 minutes was yacking in my bathroom. I sent him home. *chuckles* So I called up another set of friends... he's best friends with Roy, but they live 25 min away from us, which is why I didn't call them first. He was able to come and take Kym and I. yaay!!

We're staying home today, and not going ANYwhere... *lol* we've been out every day this week and I htink tis' time for us to just stay home and relax.
