Now that the biggest hurdle has been surmounted, both physically and mentally, I will let the rest of my family in on what's been going on. In early February I was diagnosed with the most common form of breast cancer women get. It's a non-invasive form known as DCIS. It was discovered during a routine mammogram. Ladies, take note, I didn't get my mammo done in 2006. If I had, this might have been discovered sooner and the treatment may have been much different.
To make a long story very short, I had a mastectomy in the beginning of April (just one, not both). I am now undergoing reconstruction, which may or may not be done by the gathering, so I may have a very different look this year! I will either be lopsided or smaller and perky!
All the pathology has come back and been confirmed. The nodes were negative and the margins were clean. This means no chemo and no radiation treatments will be necessary.
If any one wants to learn more about any of the processes I am undergoing, options available, and other lifestyle changes I am having to make, please don't hesitate to send me an IM or pm me in camp.
